Review this week's message.

Key Thought: Your past is in the past. Gain momentum and start building a new life on God’s truth today.

Key Quote
“People’s rejection is God’s protection” - Pastor Bil Cornelius

Start talking. Find a conversation starter for your group.
  • Pastor Bil shared an incredible redemption story about Easy Eddie. What is your favorite redemption story?
  • What do you notice about new products in stores? What draws you to them? What makes “new” so exciting to us?
  • Who is someone who has accomplished a goal you have that you’d love to learn from?
  • What are some ways you’ve brainstormed new ideas for work, home, etc.?

Start thinking. Ask a thoughtful question.
  • What can we learn from people who are younger or newer in their faith with God?
  • Why is prayer so important in the life of a believer?
  • What are situations God often uses to renew us?
  • Why is nostalgia so powerful on us? Why do we have a hard time leaving the “good ole days”?

Start sharing. Choose questions that create openness.
  • How is your prayer life? How can you pray in a new way so that you can hear from God in a new way?
  • What is something you are glad is over (God’s mercy) for your fresh start?
  • What is something new (opportunity) that God is doing in your life?
  • How has God renewed your mind since you started coming to Church Unlimited?

Start praying. Be bold, and pray with power.
Dear Jesus, thank you so much for your grace and mercy. It’s so easy to beat ourselves up to the point where we forget that we are forgiven but help us to live in that truth and make today a starting point for something new. In your name we pray. Amen.

Start doing. Commit to a step and live it out this week.
  • If you’re not already doing so, begin praying every day over your life, marriage, kids, career, or any other area you feel led.
  • Go and seek knowledge in an area of your choice beginning this week.
  • Make a list of all the things you are currently doing, regularly. Choose what is most important to keep doing. List the new ways you can do those “keepers,” then identify the things you must stop to embrace something new. Act on this new action plan.
  • Make a new set of promises to God in one of the five areas of the U. Promise to attend church every week, or start serving/serving more, stepping out and leading your own LifeGroup, increasing your tithe, or bringing more people to church with you.

Scriptures

“...if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 NAS Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23 NKJV After all of this I will pour out my Spirit on all kinds of people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your elderly will have revelatory dreams; your young men will see prophetic visions. Joel 2:28 NET And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2 NAS So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison… 2 Corinthians 4:16-17 ESV But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. Do no lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. Colossians 3:8b-10 ESV “...there is nothing new under the sun.” Ecclesiastes 1:9 NLT And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end.” Revelation 21:5-6 ESV Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:18-19 ESV The time is coming when I will make a brand-new covenant with Israel ...It won’t be a repeat of the covenant I made with their ancestors… “This is the brand-new covenant that I will make with Israel when the time comes. I will put my law within them—write it on their hearts!—and be their God. And they will be my people. They will no longer go around setting up schools to teach each other about God. They’ll know me firsthand…I’ll wipe the slate clean for each of them. I’ll forget they ever sinned!” God’s decree. Jeremiah 31:31-34 MSG
