Fight For Your Family week 1
Review this week's message.

The enemy will try to tear your family apart, so let God build your family up.

Start talking. Find a conversation starter for your group.
  • What’s the best part of being in your family?
  • What is your favorite family tradition?
  • Where did you grow up? What did you like about growing up there?
  • What is one of your best childhood memories?



Start thinking. Ask a thoughtful question.
  • Why does the enemy try so hard to tear our families apart?
  • Why is just one person listening to the enemy a threat to the whole family?
  • What is the impact that healthy, God-centered families have on our community?
  • What makes the role of father so essential in families?



Start sharing. Choose questions that create openness.
  • Tell the group how your father impacted your family growing up, whether it was good or bad.
  • When was a time someone in your family stopped you from a self-destructive decision?
  • Where do you need to fight for your family right now? How can this group pray for your family?
  • What steps can you take personally to bring out the best in your family?



Start praying. Be bold, and pray with power.

Dear Jesus, thank you for the gift of family. Give us the strength, courage, and wisdom to fight for our family so we can be who you called us to be. In your name we pray, Amen.



Start doing. Commit to a step and live it out this week.
  • Create the practice of not having your cell phone in your bedroom, limiting social media in your family and having dinner together as often as possible.
  • Take a closer interest in what your children do on their phones and have conversations with them about boundaries. Some situations may require monitoring software for your children, or yourself, such as Covenant Eyes or Bark.
  • Men: Make a pact with all the other men in the group to fight for your family (whether you’re single, married or divorced), remain engaged, fill your home with joy and put God at the center of your lives. Then all the men in the group hold one another accountable to do it.
  • Women: Encourage your husbands and fathers to be the men God calls them to be. For best results, don’t ‘nag’, but lovingly encourage. Then all the women in the group hold one another accountable to do it.


Scriptures

…the wall was finished—just fifty-two days after we had begun.  When our enemies… heard about it, they were frightened and humiliated. They realized this work had been done with the help of our God.   Nehemiah 6:15-16 NLT

The Jews who lived near the enemy came and told us again and again, “They will come from all directions and attack us!”  Nehemiah 4:12 NLT

So I placed armed guards behind the lowest parts of the wall in the exposed areas. I stationed the people to stand guard by families, armed with swords, spears, and bows.  Nehemiah 4:13 NLT

Then as I looked over the situation, I called together the nobles and the rest of the people and said to them, “Don’t be afraid of the enemy! Remember the Lord, who is great and glorious, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes!”   Nehemiah 4:14 NLT

When our enemies heard that we knew of their plans and that God had frustrated them, we all returned to our work on the wall.  But from then on, only half my men worked while the other half stood guard with spears, shields, bows, and coats of mail. The leaders stationed themselves behind the people of Judah who were building the wall. The laborers carried on their work with one hand supporting their load and one hand holding a weapon.  All the builders had a sword belted to their side. The trumpeter stayed with me to sound the alarm.   Nehemiah 4:15–18 NLT

Let no evil talk come out of your mouths, but only what is useful for building up, as there is need, so that your words may give grace to those who hear.
