Review this week's message.

Key Thought:

God wants to speak to you and here’s how you can listen.

Key Quote

“Sometimes rejection is God’s protection.” - Pastor Bil Cornelius

Start talking. Find a conversation starter for your group.
  • What are your plans for Christmas?
  • Christmas This or That:
  • The Santa Claus or The Polar Express?
  • White Christmas or Jingle Bell Rock?
  • Candy Canes or Reese’s Christmas Trees?
  • Stocking Stuffers or Wrapped Gifts?
  • Egg Nog or No Nog?

Start thinking. Ask a thoughtful question.
  • Why is it so easy to overlook when God speaks?
  • Are desires good or bad? How can you tell whether a desire is one or the other?
  • Why is God’s word an important consideration to knowing His will for your life?
  • Why is it important to have a willingness to listen to other Godly people?

Start sharing. Choose questions that create openness.
  • Have you thought you’d never hear God speak to you, but after this message realize He has? Tell the group about the experience & what God was telling you.
  • God speaks to us in 5 different ways: 1. Our desires 2. Our circumstances 3. The Holy Spirit 4. His Word 5. Godly people. Do you think it’s easier to focus on one over the others? If so, which one would you say you lean too much on and which one would you say you don’t focus on enough?
  • What is the burning desire or calling on your heart that you can’t shake?
  • When was a time God worked through the unwanted circumstances of your life?

Start praying. Be bold, and pray with power.

Dear Jesus, thank you for always being there for us. We know that you’re always working everything out for our good, so help us to hear and discern when you are truly speaking to us. We want to listen, be obedient, and walk in it. In your name we pray, Amen.

Start doing. Commit to a step and live it out this week.
  • It is essential that we are always intentionally seeking God’s will for our lives. One of the best and most essential ways to do that is through His Word. If you are not already, commit to reading Scripture every morning to start off your day, even if it is just for 10 minutes.
  • The Christian life was never meant to be done alone, which is why LifeGroups are so important! It’s where we connect and grow with one another. If you have a big life decision in your midst, know that you don’t have to carry that burden alone. Take some time right now to ask your LifeGroup for advice! As Pastor Bil said, God will often speak to us through Godly people!

Scriptures

This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph… Matthew 1:18a NIV

...but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. Matthew 1:18b-19 NIV

But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:20-21 NIV

The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God. What’s more, your relative Elizabeth has become pregnant in her old age! People used to say she was barren, but she has conceived a son and is now in her sixth month. For nothing is impossible with God.” Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.” And then the angel left her.” Luke 1:35-38 NLT

All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” —which means, “God with us.” Matthew 1:22-23 NIV

“My ambition has always been to preach the Good News where the name of Christ has never been heard, rather than where a church has already been started by someone else.” Romans 15:20 NLT

When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus. Matthew 1:24 NIV

A few days later Mary hurried to the hill country of Judea…She entered the house and greeted Elizabeth. At the sound of Mary’s greeting, Elizabeth’s child leaped within her, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. Elizabeth gave a glad cry and exclaimed to Mary, “God has blessed you above all women, and your child is blessed. Why am I so honored, that the mother of my Lord should visit me? When I heard your greeting, the baby in my womb jumped for joy. You are blessed because you believed that the Lord would do what he said.” Luke 1:39-45 NLT
