Review this week's message.

Key Thought:

For God to set you up with blessings, you must first be set free from sin and set apart with loyalty to Him.

Key Quote

“You’re either a servant to Christ or a servant to the world.” - Pastor Bil Cornelius

Start talking. Find a conversation starter for your group.
  • What’s the longest road trip you’ve ever taken?
  • What was your favorite hobby/pastime as a kid?
  • What’s your favorite song right now?
  • What is your biggest pet peeve?

Start thinking. Ask a thoughtful question.
  • Why is sin deceptive?
  • How can you tell whether you are in a season of slavery, in the wilderness, or in the promised land?
  • What can you do to prepare yourself for the inner battles you need to face?
  • Are you in the land of “not enough,” “just enough” or “more than enough”?

Start sharing. Choose questions that create openness.
  • Are you stuck in a season of slavery, wilderness, or are you in the promised land?
  • Where do you feel God calling you to be more holy (set apart)?
  • What does “worship” mean to you?
  • What false idols are in your life? What enslaves you?

Start praying. Be bold, and pray with power.

Dear Jesus, thank you for working everything out for our good. Help us to trust you and willingly allow ourselves to be who you want us to become. In your name we pray, Amen.

Start doing. Commit to a step and live it out this week.
  • Every morning read this prayer aloud to God: Dear Jesus, thank you for loving me. I want to become who you made me to be. Today I ask that you set me free from my false idols, set me apart from the world around me and set me up to live the life you designed me to live. In your precious and holy name I pray. Amen.
  • Having a heart of gratitude, thankfulness, and worship creates a more fulfilling life. Find 2-3 worship songs that you connect with and listen to them for the next few days. Meditate on the songs and form a heart of gratitude for what he is doing in your life.
  • God said to, “Be holy as I am holy.” By living holy lives we become better witnesses for the good news of Jesus. Identify an area in your life where you are still living like a slave to the world and intentionally allow God to transform your life in that area.
  • Commit to attending church and participating in worship whether it is online or in person. Let worship be a demonstration to God and yourself of a commitment to live free of sin.

Scriptures

“Go back to Pharaoh,” the LORD commanded Moses. “Tell him, ‘This is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: Let my people go, so they can worship me. Exodus 9:1 NLT

Now when Pharaoh had let the people go, God did not lead them by the way of the land of the Philistines, even though it was near; for God said, “The people might change their minds when they see war, and return to Egypt.” Hence God led the people around by the way of the wilderness to the Red Sea; and the sons of Israel went up in martial array from the land of Egypt. Exodus 13:17-18 NLT

He said, “If you will listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his sight, obeying his commands and keeping all his decrees, then I will not make you suffer any of the diseases I sent on the Egyptians; for I am the LORD who heals you.” Exodus 15:26 NLT

Then the LORD said to Moses, “I have heard the Israelites’ complaints. Now tell them, ‘In the evening you will have meat to eat, and in the morning you will have all the bread you want. Then you will know that I am the LORD your God.’” Exodus 16:11-12 NLT

Now if you will obey me and keep my covenant, you will be my own special treasure from among all the peoples on earth; for all the earth belongs to me. And you will be my kingdom of priests, my holy nation.’ This is the message you must give to the people of Israel.” Exodus 19:5-6 NLT

Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it aloud to the people. Again they all responded, “We will do everything the LORD has commanded. We will obey.” Exodus 24:7 NLT

The LORD told Moses, “Quick! Go down the mountain! Your people whom you brought from the land of Egypt have corrupted themselves. How quickly they have turned away from the way I commanded them to live! They have melted down gold and made a calf, and they have bowed down and sacrificed to it. They are saying, ‘These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.’” Then the LORD said, “I have seen how stubborn and rebellious these people are. Exodus 32:7-9 NLT

But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do. James 1:6-8 NLT

because you broke faith with Me in the midst of the sons of Israel at the waters of Meribah-kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin, because you did not treat Me as holy in the midst of the sons of Israel. “For you shall see the land at a distance, but you shall not go there, into the land which I am giving the sons of Israel.” Deuteronomy 32:51-52
